Safety planning is for those:
- Living with an abuser - because the danger can occur at any time.
- Planning to leave - because few abusers allow their victim to leave peacefully.
- Living separately - because danger often increases after a survivor leaves or stops a relationship.

First Step Books
First Step is a domestic violence (DV) education and resource booklet designed to help suspected and confirmed victims of domestic violence. It includes information on domestic violence, a detailed safety plan, and a listing of the names and hotline phone numbers of 38 of Florida's 42 DV Centers. The First Step booklet was made possible through a grant received by the Florida Department of Health in partnership with The Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence and from The Family Violence Prevention Fund. The First Step booklet is written at a 4th grade level. Three language versions are available:
